2011 Christmas Memories - Day 9

We were jam packed full of fun today.  The older kids had their last day of co-op classes for the fall semester.  Harlee and Jordan were in choir and p.e. classes while Hannah was in a geography class.  Today they were studying Israel and Jerusalem.  Hallie Jo hung out with me away from the rest of the group so we wouldn't pass on any sick germs.  She was SO bummed she could not go to her classes too.

Hallie Jo's booty is worse and she started crying every time she needed to pee.  I made a doctor's appointment to rule out whether it is rash causing the pain or a bacterial infection.  We didn't have success obtaining a sample in the office so now we have to try to do that at home and deliver it to the lab ourselves.  Oh, the joys of parenthood.

After co-op, I took the kids to Shepherd's Cross to visit their live nativity, have a snack during a short film, make bird feeders and listen to a story from "Elizabeth".  We had a pretty good time but Jordan said he was disappointed that the nativity was silent, no talking at all.

We finished off our day at the local Christmas parade.  Jordan's scout pack walked in the parade.  He said, "That was totally wicked!"  He even did a great job of tossing candy and making sure he had enough for the end of the parade to share.  Jimmy got the great job of walking with the other leaders and boys while the girls and I enjoyed it from the sidewalk.

I must have worn out the kids because Jordan and Hallie Jo fell asleep before I could get dinner fixed after the parade.  In the meantime, Harlee and Hannah got to open and read our books and we talked about where we found Gundy earlier today.  He was playing Star Wars Trouble with Optimus Prime.

Playground/Library

We got unusual warm weather the Thursday after Valentine's Day so we met up with some of our homeschooling friends to play at the new playground in Skiatook.

After we played for a couple of hours, the kids and I stopped at the local library to make snowflakes and puppy chow snack mix. Yum!

Basketball Game Day #2

Lil Man had two games on December 11th. I was on basketball duty while JB was on bowling duty with Legs. My parents got to come up today so it was good that we had two games.

The first game our team ran away with a score of 17-3.

He is the blurry person playing defense against the person with the ball. He is much improved from last year.

He also likes to act like a little coach sometimes.

The second game was more of a nail biter. We had previously played this team Thursday night and got stomped but today we came away with the win and a score of 10-9. Most of the game we were ahead but then all of a sudden they had a tied score. A free throw gave us the winning point.

Christmas Memories Day 10

We read these books on December 10th.

We had our normal second Friday coop activity this morning. Legs had her Bible Study group while Lil Man was in Music and Lil Red was in PE. Then they traded places so Lil Red was in Music and the other two were in PE. Chubbles and I just hung out and visited with other families.

In the afternoon, Legs went to babysit for a friend while I took the other three to our local Christian school where the middle school students put on a production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." The drama teacher goes to our church so she had advertised this matinee show. The kids really enjoyed themselves and I heard many laughs.

That evening I took the kids to the Skiatook Christmas Parade. It was a short and sweet parade but the kids still loaded up their pockets with candy. We had some friends walking with one of the church entries, another group of friends in a Girl Scout troop and Legs heard her riding instructor singing on a float.

Basketball, Sewing, Birthdays and Scouts

Lil Man started his new season of basketball in early November. He has the same coach as last year who also happens to be his baseball coach and this year's football coach. Most of the basketball team is made up of the same boys from the baseball team and they all work together. He also has one of his scout friends on the team with him. He was excited and anxious to get to practice and he looked confident doing the drills.

Legs has been wanting to learn to sew and even though I love to sew this is the one thing I know I do not have the patience to teach to beginners. I found an online class thru The Old Schoolhouse which is free. It is once a month and after the first class she now is trying to make cloth napkins for our table and possible some Christmas gifts.

November 11th is JB's birthday as well as his dad's. I made JB's favorite, roast, carrot and potatoes for dinner and Legs decided she wanted to try a recipe she found for dessert. The roast turned out perfectly and the dessert was a yummy fruit crisp.

The following day, JB and Lil Man left for their second scout campout this year. It was quite a bit cooler than last time so they had to pack extra blankets, long johns and a propane heater for inside the tent. Lil Man said it was so much fun.

Horse Riding Lessons

Another mom in our homeschool coop arranged horse riding lessons for interested parties at a local ranch for a reduced group rate. We jumped at the chance because Legs has been wanting to do this for awhile and the cost was prohibitive.

She loved the first day and counts down every week until the next Monday. There are six riders in her class and they are all excited about each week. They were able to get on the horses on the first day.

Fall Golf Lesson

Lil Man joined seven other boys and girls from our homeschool coop in fall golf lessons during the month of September and October. They went weekly to O'Brien Park, part of Tulsa County Parks. The best part was that it was completely FREE.

Physical Education

The start of the new school year brings the start of new classes, meetings and field trips. The first Friday of every month is Mom's Meeting for our homeschool group. The moms get together to meet and discuss upcoming activities and other "business". While the moms meet, we have some of our older girls watching the kids playing on a local church's indoor playground.

On the second Friday of each month, the kids come together for PE and Music classes. This first month I stayed in the gym and watched PE. I apologize for the poor pictures but my camera doesn't like the lighting in the gym. Next month I will have pictures from music.

Skiatook vs. Bishop Kelley

The first game of the season and our final score was 0-0. I think it is safe to say that we were evenly matched with Bishop Kelley.

Open Season...Football Season, That Is

Lil Man has started his second year of tackle football already. They have had to endure some pretty intense heat but the coaches are doing a great job of making sure the boys get frequent breaks and we spray them down with water when needed.

This year Lil Man is playing for his baseball/basketball coach in the Skiatook League which is a part of the Indians Nations Football Conference.

Skate Park & Two Birthday Parties

We got another chance to go to the skate park and meet other homeschooling friends for some fun in between bad weather days. Legs chose to stay home from this activity.

We have known the H family since Legs was in 2nd or 3rd grade and have had many educational and fun experiences together.

C and his family are a great addition to our homeschooling group of friends.

I also took Chubbles to Borders' Elmo Birthday Party on Saturday.

later that day we had a family birthday party for Legs' (12) and Chubbles (2). Unfortunately, I got sick and had to spend the entire afternoon and evening in my room or the bathroom so we didn't get too many pics on our camera.

Legs wanted a Harry Potter cake and Chubbles wanted an Elmo cake so we had two small round cakes since it was too hard to combine those themes onto the same cake.
