I am thankful for my mommy friends.
Tonight I was able to go eat with other mommies at our monthly Mom's Night Out.
It was so good to get out, socialize and have many laughs amongst friends who share a lifestyle similar to mine.
It sure helped to get my mind off of things that were stressful this week.

Thankful Post #18
I am so thankful for a few select friends that God placed in the right spot this week. I would not have been able to function without Bonnie, Annette, Susan and April.
I had read early this week about some possible UN treaties that could be ratified during the lame duck session that were a big concern for all families in the United States. I did what I could by sharing the information and asking others to please read and make an informed decision. I also asked if they felt led to please contact their senators and ask them to stand against the ratification.
After sharing, I should have never went on a search. It was a dumb decision on my part. I started trying to find anything I could read about what other countries have done after ratifying the same treaties. I did not find positive things at all. Added to this, I started looking at things about the fiscal cliff, Israel and other things I consider negative for our country's future. The more I researched, the more I freaked out. I was in such a state of worry and panic that I was not sleeping well or eating hardly at all. I found I was having a very difficult time even making myself get out of bed in the morning. I was reading my Bible constantly especially before trying to sleep and as soon as I woke up. I was even waking up in the middle of the night and grabbing my Bible just to find something to ease my mind so I could try to sleep again.
By the time Sunday morning got here, I was a mess. I was having a hard time letting my kids out of my sight and keeping it together as not to worry them. Jimmy said that I shouldn't be so worry and to quit reading news about things I can't do anything about. He was right but I just couldn't switch the worry off. I broke down with full-body sobs during the worship service and all I knew to do was ask God for his help to rebuke Satan and this worry that he was using against me. I knew that no matter what we face in our future, God will always be there but Satan had found a crack where he could get ahold of me and he had it.
Susan, Annette, Bonnie and April have been praying and sharing many, many verses with me since. I still have a few moments here and there but in about a week's time, I am almost back to my normal, cheery, upbeat self who I like so much better. I am very blessed by God for these wonderful, Christian women who where there at just the right time. I am also blessed that God used this rough week to make me get closer to him and to make my quiet time much more important than it had been in the past.

I am so thankful for our church and our small group. First Baptist Church of Owasso has been more than a blessing for our family. It has been our lifeline.
When our family decided to move here over 10 years ago, Jimmy and I knew we wanted a church that had both an Awana and FAITH program. I started the "search" online first and I thought it was an easy solution since FBCO was the only area church with both programs. Jimmy instantly said, "No, that church is too big." He was comparing the size of the church he grew up to FBCO. I quickly retorted, "Well, then we have to find a church with Awana and you can start a FAITH program."
After we got moved, we started visiting local churches and FBCO was included in these visits to give it a chance. They were currently meeting at the local high school auditorium for worship while all the small group classes and children were at the church location. They were in the process of building a new, bigger building. It didn't take us too many visits to figure out that this was THE church God wanted us to be a part of. We joined in November 2002 on the first day FBCO worship in their new and current location.
We quickly got involved over the next few months with Jimmy participating in FAITH and eventually becoming the Sunday School director while I helped in AWANA and VBS and eventually became the director of both. All this while adding two more kiddos to the mix.
We still continue to serve as youth and preschool teachers while enjoying our time with our adult small group. The adults in our class are from all different backgrounds but we can come together to worship the one and only. We have stood by each other when times are tight, resources low and just when we need to share a good laugh. It is nice to have a group that you can be comfortable enough with to share.

I am more than blessed to be a part of Heritage Homeschool Co-op. Our family has been members of other groups throughout our homeschool adventure and this has been the best fit for us.
This is our fourth year as members, my third on the board and my first year as the president. I love serving with my other board members, Stephanie, Annette, Shelley and Amy. I couldn't possibly do a quarter of what our group does without these special ladies.
We do many things monthly such as a mom meeting, co-op classes, service projects, field trips, mom's night out, couples' only events and family fellowships. Inbetween all of this, we share ideas, concerns, curriculum, and support as well as many hugs and laughs.
I know in my heart God put this group in our path at the right time and this adventure our family is on would not be as successful without our wonderful group.

Thankful Post #5
Today I am thankful for the opportunities that have been given to one of my best friends in high school.
Tommy and I grew up going to the same high school and church. He graduated two years before I did but we went as friends to his senior prom. He was on the football team and he was always the "big brother" all my dates were scared of. Ever since I met him, he has been one of the strongest followers of God that I know. I can remember Tommy preaching the sermon when it was Youth Takeover Sunday at our church and there was never an opportunity at church that he was not a part of.
Sunday, November 4th, God finally brought Tommy to place that he has always wanted to be. He is now the lead pastor at a church in Oklahoma. This has been a long time coming and I could not be more proud. I am giddy with excitement to see Tommy finally getting to follow what he knew God was leading him to do in high school.

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 15
We had a harder time finding Gundy today. Hannah finally spotted him on her bookshelves listening to her music. I guess he was getting tired of all the noise around here.
Gundy's buddy, Charley has been monkeying around. Go see what he is up to over at The 4-Crow's and link up with us.
The kids did a Christmas activity with Jimmy tonight. They watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
While we enjoyed appetizers and cookies, we moms watched Christmas With The Kranks. This movie is based on John Grisham's book, Skipping Christmas and can always be counted on to bring a good laugh or two.
Finally, we read two more books tonight.

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 3
Today, our elf, Gundy, was comfortable on the couch reading a book. Please join Gundy's buddy, Charlie, over at The 4-Crow's to see more elf fun.
Our day was busy and started with Hannah at bowling league. Then we spent the afternoon reading these books and watching this movie.
That evening, Jimmy and I went to a homeschool couples Christmas party. This party was beyond fun! It is amazing how much fun we can have without our kids around. *Disclaimer: Don't be fooled by the shirts we are wearing. It was an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. We were going to wear OU but since it was Bedlam, we just could not do that so we decided this was the ugliest thing we could find to wear.*

Homeschool Moms Retreat
While the boys were away playing at Nascar, I got to join other moms in my homeschool coop for a retreat. I was on the committee just so I could make sure that I did not miss this annual event.
We found some great things for the goodie bags including a book with four novels at Mardel's for $.99/each. Each mom brought some yummy food because you can not have a retreat without food.
We also instructed each mom to bring a collection of their favorite things to share with another mom in the group. We played a little get to know you game which in turn helped us decide who got to open their gift first, second, third and so on.
I had to leave after the gift exchange because Chubbles was sick and I had left Legs in charge. I had heard stories of the fun games and stories shared after I left the retreat. Next year, I think we need to do a retreat away from home to really relax.

Derby Car Races
Lil Man and JB participated in the local Boy Scout Derby Car Races. They both came out winners with Lil Man placing 2nd in speed and JB placing 3rd in speed.
Birthday at the Hotel
Legs' got to share her birthday party with friends from church. We decided to keep it small but I still wanted it to be fun. We reserved a suite at a local hotel with an indoor pool. The suite had a small kitchen, a living/dining area and two bedrooms. It was perfect for 5 girls and myself to have a good time and relax.

National Pancake Day
March 1st was National Pancake Day. In honor of this celebration, all the IHOP restaurants in America give a FREE short stack of pancakes. In return, they ask that you make a donation to the Children's Miracle Network. The kids and I have taken advantage of this the last two years and paired it with a trip to the aquarium.
This year we changed it up a bit and instead of going to the museum, we met homeschool friends there after we knew that most of the restaurant would be empty. We had a great turnout and lots of fun. We even had two of our dads join us! Who doesn't love FREE pancakes?

Farm-themed Birthday Party
I have always wanted to do a farm-themed birthday party. We start letting the kids have a party with their friends only (no siblings) at age 3. I started looking around at my option for Chubbles and came across the party option at Sprouts Play Cafe in Owasso. It was a perfect setting because the whole place is decorated in a farm theme.
They were very reasonable and it only cost me $50 since there were five little girls there. Sprouts provided the decorations, goodie bags, gift for the birthday child, entertainment and craft all in my price. All I had to provide was the invitations and cake. The best part, no cleaning the house beforehand and no clean-up afterward.

Homeschool Valentines Party
The huge snowstorm at the beginning of the month moved our homeschool co-op party back to February 19th. The team of moms of who planned and hosted this party did a great job!
Playground/Library
We got unusual warm weather the Thursday after Valentine's Day so we met up with some of our homeschooling friends to play at the new playground in Skiatook.
After we played for a couple of hours, the kids and I stopped at the local library to make snowflakes and puppy chow snack mix. Yum!

RHOK MckLinky Monday - Valentine's Day
It is MckLinky Monday over at RHOK. This week they are asking what we do for Valentine's Day. Our family does not do much because we focus more on Chubbles' birthday three days earlier.
This year I decorated the table with red placemats, confetti and a wooden "love" thingy I found at Hobby Lobby. Then I put a box of candy at each place. We are huge Nascar fans so I found a Jimmie Johnson one for JB, Dale Earnhardt Jr. for Legs and Jeff Gordon for Little Man. I found cute animal boxes for Chubbles (dog) and Little Red (elephant). I also fixed pink pancakes with sprinkles for breakfast.
Our homeschool Valentine Party got canceled earlier this month due to the snow so we are supposed to have our party this Friday. The kids and I will be working on signing their Valentines and decorating their boxes. I also found shirts that are either red or have something to do with Valentine's Day for the kids to wear to the party.Saturday, JB and I went out to eat Saturday at P.F. Chang's with 18 of our friends from church. It was romantic but it sure was fun and yummy.

Christmas Memories Day 24
For our last night, we read these books:
We spent most of the day just getting ready for the rest of the weekend. I cleaned up the kitchen and did laundry while the kids played on the computer or with Legos or Polly Pockets.
This evening we got to go to a Christmas Eve service at a church in our local town. I have never been to one because our family obligations have always been at the same time but that changed this year. It was a very special and reflective time.
Later, JB's dad came over so the kids could open up presents from him. They all got books which they are excited about. Chubbles got two search and find books with Elmo and Mickey. Lil Red got a princess book and a ballerina book and each one came with a matching necklace. Lil Man got a Star Wars Lego book that had over 200 pieces that you use to build the items throughout the book. My favorite was Legs' book. It was a Harry Potter book and it is all the inside stuff about the characters and the making of the movies.
The other gift they opened from my father-in-law was a group gift. We have finally entered the age of home gaming systems and we now have a Wii. It came with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort and we were given three other games, Lego Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Mario Brothers. There were squeals of delight as that present was opened.
After papa left, we had the kids open their one gift from us. They know what they are because we do it every year on Christmas Eve. They all got new pajamas to wear. This is only the second time I have not coordinated them but I wasn't really happy with what I had seen this year.
Finally, at the end of the night, we put out our cookies and letters for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer.
It didn't take Lil Red and Lil Man five minutes to fall asleep. I am so excited about tomorrow. We start out with Santa gifts, breakfast and reading the REAL Christmas story from Luke 2 in the Bible. I love hearing JB read out-loud to all of us each year.
At the beginning of the month, we told them that we couldn't afford presents this year and that was why we were starting the new tradition of reading books each night and making sure to focus on a different Christmas activity each day. Well, some friends got together and presented us with gift cards to go shopping for the kids. They still think they aren't getting anything from us, so Christmas morning will be one big surprise.

Christmas Memories Day 22
Tonight we read these books:
JB took Lil Man with him to work and the girls stayed at home playing and doing laundry while I got the last few gifts for the kids from JB's dad and mailed my Christmas cards. When I got back, the girls and I made an assembly line and got six bags full of goodies ready to deliver to other families.
We filled the bags with breads, spiced tea mix, turkey noodle soup mix and snowman soup packets. We added labels with directions on how to make the soup and a cup of tea. Once all of the bags were ready to go, we picked up Lil Man and we were on our way.
My original plan was to sing carols at each house we were making a delivery but the kids did not like that idea. The first house we stopped at is some newer friends of ours who pastor a church in our little town. They just brought their two-year old home from the hospital where she was dealing with pneumonia. They had also just finished hosting family for an early Christmas.
The second bag went to some more good friends of ours that live close. JB and V have become good buddies and are always bouncing ideas off of each other. They have all teenager daughters and Lil Man has a crush on one of them. Lil Red has also made an attachment to this couple that just melts their hearts.
Bag number three was delivered to the kids' swimming instructors. They were in the middle of their family Christmas but Mrs. D was moved to tears that we would even think of them. She kept insisting that we come in and join the festivities but we had three more bags to deliver.
Our next stop was a family that goes to our church and is like another set of grandparents to the kids. Leona (or Ono as Chubbles likes to say) and Papa Rick spoil these kids with attention and she is always willing to help me out with the kids if I need to be somewhere during the day without them.
Stop number five was to our homeschool coop president's house. I had contacted her earlier in the day to make sure they would be home but would not tell her why, just that it was a good thing. She was excited because they really like surprises. While we dropped off their bag of goodies, I also presented them with a gift from the coop for a family membership to the OK Aquarium.
The last gift was to our best friends. I knew they were not at home but we left it on the front porch. We didn't get to see their reactions but I know they will enjoy the goodies. She texted me later and told me that I broke the no gift rule between us. I told her it was not a gift, just a "hey, we love you bunches" bag.

Christmas Memories Day 18
Tonight we read these books:
Today was busy with Christmas and non-Christmas events. It started very early with JB taking Lil Man to his basketball game. They won 12-3. Once they got home, I got the kids loaded up and we ran some errands like picking up some gift cards for three different birthdays. We failed to make it to our great niece and great nephew's birthday party. I still had to get home and finish putting together chili and a dessert for the party later tonight.
Lil Red had a birthday party to go to while at the same time Lil Man had a Boy Scout pack meeting and I had an appointment. Lil Man and another wolf scout got to present the colors and I am so disappointed that I missed it. I am praying one of the other moms got some pictures for me. Lil Red is our little diva/princess but to our surprise she didn't want the cucumbers on her eyes or the avocado mask on her face during the party. She did let them paint their nails with sparkly nail polish.
Later that evening, the kids went to JB's sister's house and the two of us went to a church youth worker's party. I think I was the only spouse there that didn't work in the youth department. The men were supposed to bring chili and the women were to bring the desserts. JB will be the first to tell you that he doesn't really know how to cook but to our surprise, he won the chili contest. It was the first time we had had Elk Chili but it was really good. There was enough leftover I think we will be having Frito Chili Pie, Chili Cheese Dogs and 3-Way Chili this week coming up.
While we were at our party, the kids had a pizza and movie night with their aunt and uncle. They may make this a tradition in the years to come.

Lil Red is our little diva/princess but to our surprise she didn't want the cucumbers on her eyes or the avocado mask on her face during the party. She did let them paint their nails with sparkly nail polish.
Later that evening, the kids went to JB's sister's house and the two of us went to a church youth worker's party. I think I was the only spouse there that didn't work in the youth department. The men were supposed to bring chili and the women were to bring the desserts. JB will be the first to tell you that he doesn't really know how to cook but to our surprise, he won the chili contest. It was the first time we had had Elk Chili but it was really good. There was enough leftover I think we will be having Frito Chili Pie, Chili Cheese Dogs and 3-Way Chili this week coming up.
While we were at our party, the kids had a pizza and movie night with their aunt and uncle. They may make this a tradition in the years to come.

Christmas Memories Day 14
Today, Chubbles and I read these books.
Chubbles got to spend part of the day with one of her friends. Another mom had offered to watch the kids so I took her up on it and spent the time with my best friend, K. We did some shopping, eating and just plain ol' good girlfriend time together.
Our family was blessed this year to provide gifts from Santa by either re-gifting an older sibling's toy (Barbie house for Lil Red) or a donated toy from a friend (Nintendo Game Boy for Lil Man and Vanity for Chubbles). Legs wanted a new Bible and had previously picked one out at Mardels. Today, when Santa's elves went to get it, they were out but the elves spotted a horse-lovers Bible. I can't wait to see her reaction on Christmas morning at the unexpected gift.
Tonight, Chubbles and I added more ornaments to our tree. We couldn't find our ornament hooks so I got some more today and we finished adding our special ones. I was told that the other three kids decorated grandma and grandpa's tree today too.

Basketball Game Day #2
Lil Man had two games on December 11th. I was on basketball duty while JB was on bowling duty with Legs. My parents got to come up today so it was good that we had two games.
The first game our team ran away with a score of 17-3.
He is the blurry person playing defense against the person with the ball. He is much improved from last year.
He also likes to act like a little coach sometimes.
The second game was more of a nail biter. We had previously played this team Thursday night and got stomped but today we came away with the win and a score of 10-9. Most of the game we were ahead but then all of a sudden they had a tied score. A free throw gave us the winning point.
