I am thankful for a quiet, uneventful evening.
The kids and I went to church and while the girls were all in their respective classes, Jordan and I hung out in a room by ourselves. His cough was still lingering and I didn't want to comprise his immune system or expose him to others.
While he hung out with me, he was a great at helping me get ready for my craft for preschool class on Sunday. He cut out lots and lots of tissue paper squares so the boys and girls can make wreaths.
While we were working, we could hear Hallie Jo next door in her class. She was getting frustrated with a classmate and we could hear her raising her voice. Each time Hallie Jo hollered, I noticed Jordan would tense up. He was ready to go next door and tear the other kid apart for upsetting his sister. I thought I might have to hold him back. I just love that "protect my sister" attitude. He makes me proud!

Thankful Post #21
This past Sunday, in the middle of my breakdown (See my Thankful Post #18), we had a great blessing. Our family was able to tithe for the first time in a couple of years. We are going to be able to tithe again this week.
This has been heavy on my heart for a good long time and I was so excited that I was able to give back to the One who provides for everything we have. It is only a small amount that he requests that we give to him to further his kingdom.

We had a family from church call us Saturday night as they were leaving to go out of town for Thanksgiving. They wanted to share with us things from their refrigerator and freezer that would have otherwise gone bad while they are gone.
This was a huge, unexpected blessing that helped with the grocery bill this week. It was also a blessing for Jimmy and the kids to have something for dinner when I was in the state of mind to function properly.

I am so thankful for a few select friends that God placed in the right spot this week. I would not have been able to function without Bonnie, Annette, Susan and April.
I had read early this week about some possible UN treaties that could be ratified during the lame duck session that were a big concern for all families in the United States. I did what I could by sharing the information and asking others to please read and make an informed decision. I also asked if they felt led to please contact their senators and ask them to stand against the ratification.
After sharing, I should have never went on a search. It was a dumb decision on my part. I started trying to find anything I could read about what other countries have done after ratifying the same treaties. I did not find positive things at all. Added to this, I started looking at things about the fiscal cliff, Israel and other things I consider negative for our country's future. The more I researched, the more I freaked out. I was in such a state of worry and panic that I was not sleeping well or eating hardly at all. I found I was having a very difficult time even making myself get out of bed in the morning. I was reading my Bible constantly especially before trying to sleep and as soon as I woke up. I was even waking up in the middle of the night and grabbing my Bible just to find something to ease my mind so I could try to sleep again.
By the time Sunday morning got here, I was a mess. I was having a hard time letting my kids out of my sight and keeping it together as not to worry them. Jimmy said that I shouldn't be so worry and to quit reading news about things I can't do anything about. He was right but I just couldn't switch the worry off. I broke down with full-body sobs during the worship service and all I knew to do was ask God for his help to rebuke Satan and this worry that he was using against me. I knew that no matter what we face in our future, God will always be there but Satan had found a crack where he could get ahold of me and he had it.
Susan, Annette, Bonnie and April have been praying and sharing many, many verses with me since. I still have a few moments here and there but in about a week's time, I am almost back to my normal, cheery, upbeat self who I like so much better. I am very blessed by God for these wonderful, Christian women who where there at just the right time. I am also blessed that God used this rough week to make me get closer to him and to make my quiet time much more important than it had been in the past.

I am so thankful for our church and our small group. First Baptist Church of Owasso has been more than a blessing for our family. It has been our lifeline.
When our family decided to move here over 10 years ago, Jimmy and I knew we wanted a church that had both an Awana and FAITH program. I started the "search" online first and I thought it was an easy solution since FBCO was the only area church with both programs. Jimmy instantly said, "No, that church is too big." He was comparing the size of the church he grew up to FBCO. I quickly retorted, "Well, then we have to find a church with Awana and you can start a FAITH program."
After we got moved, we started visiting local churches and FBCO was included in these visits to give it a chance. They were currently meeting at the local high school auditorium for worship while all the small group classes and children were at the church location. They were in the process of building a new, bigger building. It didn't take us too many visits to figure out that this was THE church God wanted us to be a part of. We joined in November 2002 on the first day FBCO worship in their new and current location.
We quickly got involved over the next few months with Jimmy participating in FAITH and eventually becoming the Sunday School director while I helped in AWANA and VBS and eventually became the director of both. All this while adding two more kiddos to the mix.
We still continue to serve as youth and preschool teachers while enjoying our time with our adult small group. The adults in our class are from all different backgrounds but we can come together to worship the one and only. We have stood by each other when times are tight, resources low and just when we need to share a good laugh. It is nice to have a group that you can be comfortable enough with to share.

I am thankful for our preschool and children's departments at church.
Our church has seen a lot of change in the last year but one of the best changes was Susan, Preschool Director. Susan and her assistant, Loucinda work more than anyone can imagine to keep our preschool area clean and germ free. They work diligently to make sure we are staffed with reliable workers at anytime, that children with allergies are not in danger and that the department continues to grow in training as needed. I love serving in this department on Sunday mornings.
Our Children's Directors, Kolby and Mary Beth were one of the few that stayed the same through all the changes the church has recently encountered. They are always a non-stop bundle of energy and work tirelessly to bring the right kind of practical lessons to our elementary children so they can see God's love and work in their own lives while encouraging those students to share God wonderful plan with others. Time and time again I see another student who has stepped out of their comfort zone to share what many adults aren't willing to do. This is our next generation and I couldn't be more proud.

Thankful Post #12
I am so thankful for the wonderful ladies I serve with on the Preschool Ministry Team at our church. They are so creative and we all seem to work well together to bring our preschool department to what God has showed us it can be.
We had a meeting today that let us gather information together for our many, many ministry events happening in 2013. We are having events for Moms/Kids, Dads/Kids, preschool volunteers, families with new babies, choir performances, and special parties to help celebrate holidays.
We are led by Susan Helm who has a heart for God, preschoolers and hospitality. She has created a vision for the preschool department and our team that goes beyond our dreams and expectations.
The boys and girls that are in those classes will feel the love of Jesus through so many dedicated volunteers.

Hannah joined other high school students and painted a house for a needy family. We call this the Restore Ministry and it allows those students who chose to, to become the hands and feet of Jesus for a local family.

Thankful Post #5
Today I am thankful for the opportunities that have been given to one of my best friends in high school.
Tommy and I grew up going to the same high school and church. He graduated two years before I did but we went as friends to his senior prom. He was on the football team and he was always the "big brother" all my dates were scared of. Ever since I met him, he has been one of the strongest followers of God that I know. I can remember Tommy preaching the sermon when it was Youth Takeover Sunday at our church and there was never an opportunity at church that he was not a part of.
Sunday, November 4th, God finally brought Tommy to place that he has always wanted to be. He is now the lead pastor at a church in Oklahoma. This has been a long time coming and I could not be more proud. I am giddy with excitement to see Tommy finally getting to follow what he knew God was leading him to do in high school.

Thankful Post #4
I am so thankful for many things today.
1. The beautiful weather so that the kids were outside and found that jumping from hay bale to hay bale was a lot of fun.

2. The marriage class that Jimmy and I are taking at church this semester. It is led by our pastor, Chris Wall and his Robin. We have heard some things that needed to remind us and others were new to us. We pray that each couple attending sees a great blessing in their marriages.
3. The local grocery store and their rewards card. I have been taking advantage of the gas rewards and using my points each week to get savings when I fill up the van. Tonight, I saved $.20/gallon on premium. Also, I found out today that the same rewards card has been keeping track of points for nice, free cookware. I had a lot more than I knew and was able to get a 3 1/2 quart covered saute pan. I am only 20 points away from earning a dutch oven or other options available. I might even cash in and get some for Christmas presents.

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 14
We worked on Christmas crafts today. I found some cute reindeer and snowmen in the Dollar Spot at Target. We have to finish them tomorrow then I will post pictures.
Tonight was our last Wednesday at church for 2011. I am glad that Hannah was feeling so much better. She hates to miss any opportunity to be at church! Harlee and Hallie Jo like going too but Jordan is on a "I don't want to go" streak right now. I made him go to the children's department and of course, he had a good time like always.
We read two cute books tonight.
And we did find Gundy pretty easily this morning. He was fishing for a snack.

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 11
Bad news woke us up this morning. Hannah spent the night at a friend's house after volunteering and she got sick multiple times. So the stomach virus thing did not pass her by and now we have infected her family. Ugh!
Right before we left church, we found that Gundy was in the middle of a battle. We assume the Lego Star Wars figures must be jealous of all the attention Gundy is receiving because it looks like they have declared war on the elf.
In the meantime, Charley the Elf is having a party. Go see why he is celebrating over at The 4-Crow's.
While at church, Hallie Jo got to participate in a Happy Birthday, Jesus party in the preschool department. They made jingle bell ornaments, listen to Mary tell her story about the night Jesus was born, listen to a puppet and sang fun songs. Then they had birthday cake and other snacks. Yum!
I slipped out of church a little early along with Harlee to take her to The Nutcracker. We got to watch some of the dancers warm-up and even ask questions of one of the dancers. This is the first time either of us have gone to the show and we both enjoyed our ourselves. I pray we are blessed to make this an annual event.
Meanwhile, Jimmy was home with the other three. Hannah hadn't been sick to her stomach since early morning so she was resting all she could.
Later that evening we had planned to take the kids to the Baptist Children's Home drive-thru Christmas pageant. We started this tradition last year. I felt horrible about leaving Hannah but she said since she volunteered the night before she would not be upset if we left her at home. When we arrived, the greeters gave us a cd to listen to in our vehicle. Some of the students living on the campus described each scene as we sat in our vehicle and viewed the "actors." *Disclamier: My pictures are not as good as usual do to reflection of windows.*

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 10
Today was another busy day in our house.
Then off to Hannah's bowling league. Today was her last day of 2011. We will be back in January with two tournaments. Woohoo!
After Hannah got done, we had to beat it back to our home town to meet Jordan and Jimmy at the scout pack meeting or Christmas Party. Santa Claus came to visit at the end of our party. This was the first time Hallie Jo had seen a live Santa that close and she was waving at him from down the hall and then screamed across the room telling him what she wanted.
She was not hesitant at all to sit on his lap. Jordan and Harlee joined in on the fun and we did get one family picture with the jolly old guy. All the scouts got their pinewood derby cars as gifts to be used in March and the siblings got coloring books and crayons. Hallie Jo and Harlee opened theirs right away and put them to good use.
Later, we left Harlee, Hallie Jo and Jordan at a local church who offered childcare for the evening and took Hannah to serve with her friends at the local Baptist Children's home. While we were kid-free, Jimmy and I joined other preschool volunteers from our church at dinner in the same Amish home I ate at last month with my mommy friends.
Again the food didn't disappoint and the company was great!
We finished the night by reading two books with the kids.

2011 Christmas Memories - Day 4
Gundy got comfy last night in Hallie Jo's dresser drawer. We think the cat might have joined him because clothes were pushed to the side and things from the top of the dresser were in the drawer. Hallie Jo was full of joy to find him there because she has insisted since the day Gundy arrived that we would find him in her dresser drawer. Sundays are almost always our busiest day of the week and today was no exception. We have been lax lately and only attending the second service at church but today we had to go to both services. I like that better anyways because I know the kids get more out of their experiences and they always have fun.
It was a big craft day in the preschool department and it was my idea so I needed to be there to direct both sessions. Normally when I do this particular craft I do both hand prints and one foot print but to save time we had a stencil of a foot and just did hand prints. The angels turned out as cute as usual. (As soon as we get them back next week, I will take a picture of Hallie Jo's and post it here.)
Meanwhile, Jordan and Harlee were making their own ornaments in the children's department. They painted ceramic trees. I just love homemade ornaments!
After church we read The Polar Express and Silent Night. We followed that up by watching The Polar Express movie.

Easter Weekend
Easter was a little different this year. I usually host a dinner and egg hunt at our house on Saturday so no one has to rush around on Sunday after church. That also leaves Sunday to focus on the real reason for Easter, our Lord and Savior. We still made our Resurrection Rolls and dyed our eggs.
This year instead of hosting, I decided we needed to join our "adopted family" in the town where I grew up. We became great friends with this family when I was young and one year for Christmas, they gave us "adoption papers". Mom and dad knew we were coming but I asked them to keep it a surprise. I loved the looks on their faces when we drove up. It was great catching up with them all. I feel like I can really be myself when I am around them.
We had planned on a huge egg hunt for all the kids but the constant downpours literally put a damper on our plans. We were all gathered inside a metal building that is affectionately called the "party barn." The barn has a batting cage and kitchenette. We decided to throw the eggs into the batting cage, let age three and under out for the first one to two minutes then the rest of the kids joined them for a great egg gathering. The kids got eggs filled with candy, small toys and coins. The adults got great memories with kids.

Christmas Memories Day 24
For our last night, we read these books:
We spent most of the day just getting ready for the rest of the weekend. I cleaned up the kitchen and did laundry while the kids played on the computer or with Legos or Polly Pockets.
This evening we got to go to a Christmas Eve service at a church in our local town. I have never been to one because our family obligations have always been at the same time but that changed this year. It was a very special and reflective time.
Later, JB's dad came over so the kids could open up presents from him. They all got books which they are excited about. Chubbles got two search and find books with Elmo and Mickey. Lil Red got a princess book and a ballerina book and each one came with a matching necklace. Lil Man got a Star Wars Lego book that had over 200 pieces that you use to build the items throughout the book. My favorite was Legs' book. It was a Harry Potter book and it is all the inside stuff about the characters and the making of the movies.
The other gift they opened from my father-in-law was a group gift. We have finally entered the age of home gaming systems and we now have a Wii. It came with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort and we were given three other games, Lego Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Mario Brothers. There were squeals of delight as that present was opened.
After papa left, we had the kids open their one gift from us. They know what they are because we do it every year on Christmas Eve. They all got new pajamas to wear. This is only the second time I have not coordinated them but I wasn't really happy with what I had seen this year.
Finally, at the end of the night, we put out our cookies and letters for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer.
It didn't take Lil Red and Lil Man five minutes to fall asleep. I am so excited about tomorrow. We start out with Santa gifts, breakfast and reading the REAL Christmas story from Luke 2 in the Bible. I love hearing JB read out-loud to all of us each year.
At the beginning of the month, we told them that we couldn't afford presents this year and that was why we were starting the new tradition of reading books each night and making sure to focus on a different Christmas activity each day. Well, some friends got together and presented us with gift cards to go shopping for the kids. They still think they aren't getting anything from us, so Christmas morning will be one big surprise.

The other gift they opened from my father-in-law was a group gift. We have finally entered the age of home gaming systems and we now have a Wii. It came with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort and we were given three other games, Lego Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Mario Brothers. There were squeals of delight as that present was opened.
After papa left, we had the kids open their one gift from us. They know what they are because we do it every year on Christmas Eve. They all got new pajamas to wear. This is only the second time I have not coordinated them but I wasn't really happy with what I had seen this year.
Finally, at the end of the night, we put out our cookies and letters for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer.
It didn't take Lil Red and Lil Man five minutes to fall asleep. I am so excited about tomorrow. We start out with Santa gifts, breakfast and reading the REAL Christmas story from Luke 2 in the Bible. I love hearing JB read out-loud to all of us each year.
At the beginning of the month, we told them that we couldn't afford presents this year and that was why we were starting the new tradition of reading books each night and making sure to focus on a different Christmas activity each day. Well, some friends got together and presented us with gift cards to go shopping for the kids. They still think they aren't getting anything from us, so Christmas morning will be one big surprise.

Christmas Memories Day 19
We made time to read these books tonight:
We spent seven hours on the road to go to Marietta, OK, and back. My mom's family was having an Christmas get-together. Lots of yummy food and great fellowship was shared. We even had a lot of my mom's cousins together so they got a group picture.
When we got back to town, Legs went to a Sunday school class party. They girls made cookies and then delivered them to fire stations and police stations.

When we got back to town, Legs went to a Sunday school class party. They girls made cookies and then delivered them to fire stations and police stations.
Christmas Memories Day 18
Tonight we read these books:
Today was busy with Christmas and non-Christmas events. It started very early with JB taking Lil Man to his basketball game. They won 12-3. Once they got home, I got the kids loaded up and we ran some errands like picking up some gift cards for three different birthdays. We failed to make it to our great niece and great nephew's birthday party. I still had to get home and finish putting together chili and a dessert for the party later tonight.
Lil Red had a birthday party to go to while at the same time Lil Man had a Boy Scout pack meeting and I had an appointment. Lil Man and another wolf scout got to present the colors and I am so disappointed that I missed it. I am praying one of the other moms got some pictures for me. Lil Red is our little diva/princess but to our surprise she didn't want the cucumbers on her eyes or the avocado mask on her face during the party. She did let them paint their nails with sparkly nail polish.
Later that evening, the kids went to JB's sister's house and the two of us went to a church youth worker's party. I think I was the only spouse there that didn't work in the youth department. The men were supposed to bring chili and the women were to bring the desserts. JB will be the first to tell you that he doesn't really know how to cook but to our surprise, he won the chili contest. It was the first time we had had Elk Chili but it was really good. There was enough leftover I think we will be having Frito Chili Pie, Chili Cheese Dogs and 3-Way Chili this week coming up.
While we were at our party, the kids had a pizza and movie night with their aunt and uncle. They may make this a tradition in the years to come.
